OUR STORY

Home Chocolate Factory began not as a business plan, but as a moment of curiosity.

Over 20 years ago, our founder and CEO, Michael Kamlish, started the company in his garage as a side project to his PR & Marketing consultancy. What began as an idea to explore chocolate making for his wife quickly became something much bigger. Michael saw what others didn’t—a gap in the UK market for professional-quality chocolate equipment and ingredients that were accessible, inspiring, and built to last.

That vision shaped everything that followed.

The company’s first steps were on QVC, where chocolate-making kits were demonstrated live on television. It was innovative, engaging, and ahead of its time. But when changes in return policies made the model unworkable, Michael faced a defining moment. Rather than stepping away, he chose to adapt.

With resilience and determination, he introduced a mail-order catalogue and began building direct relationships with leading European brands that had little or no presence in the UK. Through his persistence, Home Chocolate Factory became a trusted partner and distributor for industry leaders such as SELMI chocolate machines, Pavoni, Silikomart, Martellato—and later, premium chocolate producers including ICAM, bringing high-quality couverture to professionals who demanded more from their ingredients.

Michael understood early on that chocolate, pastry, and bakery were not separate crafts, but deeply connected disciplines. This insight led to the expansion of our range, allowing us to support chefs and businesses across all areas of the industry.

In 2014, that vision took physical form with the opening of our showroom—a space where chefs and chocolatiers could experience equipment firsthand, ask questions, and feel confident in their investment. Shortly after, we launched our Pastry Academy, creating a hub for learning, development, and sharing knowledge within the community.

But what truly defined Home Chocolate Factory was never just the products—it was Michael himself.

Michael built the company on values that went far beyond business: honesty, courage, creativity, and generosity. He believed that success was not measured by profit alone, but by how many people you help succeed along the way. He gave his time freely, supported chefs and entrepreneurs, and built lasting relationships based on trust.

He was a pillar of the UK pastry industry—someone who not only supplied it, but helped shape it. Through his work, he contributed to the growth of businesses across the country and played a role in raising the standards and skills of the industry itself. He was not afraid to take risks, to innovate, and to find joy in creating something sweet.

In 2025, we sadly lost Michael.

His passing was a profound loss—not only for our team, but for the entire pastry and chocolate community. Yet his legacy continues in every relationship he built, every chef he supported, and every business he helped grow.

Today, Home Chocolate Factory carries that legacy forward.

We remain committed to the principles he believed in: working with trusted, high-quality brands, offering a wide and carefully selected range of products, maintaining fair pricing and reliable service—and above all, supporting our customers with honesty and care.

We continue to evolve, to improve, and to grow—but always with the same purpose Michael started with:

To help others create.

Because Home Chocolate Factory has never just been about chocolate.
It’s about people, passion, and the stories built in every kitchen.
