This hands-on course is an introduction to silicone mould making for chefs. Subjects covered will include the types of silicone available as well as alternative mould making materials such as gelatine, urethane and alginate. Participants will prepare a mould box and cast silicone for a simple project. There will also be an introduction to mother moulds and rigid moulding materials such as plaster of Paris and resin.
The course lasts six hours and participants should bring with them a small object to make a mould of. It should be no bigger than their hand, with a maximum thickness of 3-5 cm, solid and made from a material such as wood, plastic or metal. The item can be damaged during the process so students should not bring anything of great value. Good object to bring would include: leaves, small picture frames, textured paper, small gears/mechanical parts, key chains etc.
